About the Company
The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) is Ireland's multi-award winning, purpose-built international conference and event venue. Since opening in 2010, this iconic venue has built a world-wide reputation for its passion for exceptional service and state-of-the-art facilities. With twenty-two meeting rooms of all sizes, The CCD is capable of hosting events for 8 to 8,000 delegates. The range of spaces includes boardrooms, meeting rooms, halls, 4,500 sq. m of exhibition space and a 1,995-seat auditorium. The venue also boasts banqueting facilities for up to 3,000 guests, and six spacious foyers offering panoramic views of the cityscape.
About the Position
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Sales Director will be responsible for developing and implementing an international, domestic, and corporate sales strategy for the CCD, with the primary goal of maximising commercial returns and differentiating the venue from its competitive set. The Sales Director will play a crucial role in enhancing The CCD's position in the market and driving sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop sales strategy that maximizes commercial returns, in addition to targeting competitor and market opportunities and differentiating from other European venues.
- Develop a product strategy in line with the vision and budgetary plan of the CCD.
- Develop annual budgets and corporate plans.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing sales team, with experience in fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
- Develop a set of management information which supports the sales function but also allows other senior managers and the Board to make informed business decisions.
- Promote positive relationships with key external stakeholders, including customers, media, sponsors, and industry trade associations.
- Liaise with the marketing department to ensure that an effective Marketing & PR campaign is developed to promote the venue in line with the sales strategy.
- Champion and develop innovative profile of The CCD venue nationally and internationally.
- Maximise utilisation of The CCD venue, driving revenue and contribution across all revenue streams.
Experience/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business or related field.
- 10+ years proven experience in a Senior Sales Leadership role, developing and executing sales strategies, including ideally a minimum of 5 years conference sales experience.
- Has an in-depth understanding of the conference, exhibitions, and events industry, including insights into market dynamics and competitor analysis?
- Strong understanding of revenue and yield management, event contribution, pricing strategies, and budget management.
- Extensive negotiation and presentation skills gained in a commercial environment.
- Strong IT skills and proficiency in CRM systems and tender preparation processes
- Strategic thinking capabilities with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful sales strategies.
- Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey expectations, provide feedback, and align team members with sales objectives.
- Demonstrated excellent commercial acumen with an ability to understand market dynamics and drive profitable growth.
